Common Questions

How can Pastoral Counseling help me? A Pastoral/Christian Counselor has something the secular counselors cannot offer – true healing that only comes through God. The focus is on accepting responsibility for our own actions and the change that is possible through faith. God intended each one of us to have joy, which is something completely different from happiness. We will not always be “happy”, but we can face life with the peace that is beyond understanding. His joy is a deep-seated sense of well-being regardless of our circumstances. This is the agape love of God seen through His amazing grace.

Does what we talk about remain confidential? Yes. Confidentiality is one of the most important aspects of a counseling relationship. You can trust that the sensitive issues discussed will remain private. Your informed consent will be obtained in writing if you request information to be shared. The only exception is where state law and professional ethics requires disclosure in the event of suspected neglect, abuse or the threat of serious harm to self or others.

Do I really need counseling?

The counseling you receive is the same as in-person counseling. The difference is in the logistics. Forms and documents will be exchanged through email or the regular mail. The initial paperwork, including the APS, will be completed through and submitted prior to your first session. From then on, you simply set up an appointment and connect online when it’s time for your appointment to begin.
